Take a Minute
Understand this, my beloved brothers and sisters: let everyone be quick to hear [be a careful, thoughtful listener], slow to speak, slow to anger [patient, reflective, forgiving]; for the resentful, deep-seated anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God [that standard of behavior which He requires from us].
James 1:19–20
Before you respond to what life throws at you, pause. One intentional moment can change everything. While there are rare situations that demand immediate reaction, most moments call for wisdom, restraint, and clarity. Strong emotions often arrive first, loud and urgent, but they do not have to be in charge. Feel them. Acknowledge them. Then choose not to be led by them. Take a breath. Step back. Remember who you are and what matters most. When you slow down long enough to let your values lead, your response becomes stronger and more effective. Instead of reacting to prove a point, you gain the opportunity to improve the situation. A measured response protects your heart, your witness, and your future. Give yourself a minute. In that space, wisdom has room to speak, peace has room to lead, and God has room to guide your next step.
Prayer
Father in Heaven, quiet our hearts when emotions rise quickly. Teach us to pause before we speak, to breathe before we act, and to remember who You have called us to be. Help us respond with wisdom instead of impulse, peace instead of pressure, and purpose instead of pride, so our actions reflect Your character and bring life to every situation we face. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
A pause today can prevent regret tomorrow.
