Look Ahead

You cannot change what has already happened, but you have tremendous influence over what happens next. The power of this moment is not found in reacting to the past, but in intentionally shaping the future. Let the past inform you, yes, but do not let it control you. When you base your actions on what you want to make happen instead of what just went wrong, you move from reaction to leadership. Arguments, blame, and retaliation rarely create anything good. Value, peace, and progress are built when you choose a better outcome and work toward it. You don’t have to match rudeness with rudeness or injustice with more injustice. You can interrupt the cycle by choosing wisdom, restraint, and purpose. Even when you were not the one at fault, you may be the one positioned to make things right.
