Do One More Thing
And whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.
Matthew 5:41
When you’ve done what’s required, what’s expected, and what feels sufficient, consider doing one more thing. A small effort can be the difference between simply getting by and moving forward. Living on the edge of minimum effort quietly drains joy and breeds frustration, but choosing to give a little more awakens purpose and energy. When you finish the work set before you, don’t rush away from it. You’re already moving, already focused, already productive. Extend that moment. Add value while your hands and heart are engaged. There is deep satisfaction in knowing you didn’t stop at enough. Doing one more thing isn’t about pressure or perfection; it’s about generosity of effort. When you give beyond what’s required, you discover how capable, alive, and effective God has made you. Do one more thing, not because you must, but because you can.
Prayer
Father in Heaven, help us move beyond doing only what is required and give us hearts willing to offer a little more. Strengthen us to finish well, serve faithfully, and see extra effort not as a burden but as an opportunity. Let our willingness to go beyond reflect Your generosity toward us and bring joy, growth, and purpose into every place You’ve called us to serve. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Minimum effort keeps life small; generous effort makes it grow.
