The Strength of Listening
He who answers before he hears [the facts] It is foolishness and shame to him.
Proverbs 18:13
Stop worrying so much about what you’re trying to say, and give yourself permission to listen. Though it may seem counterintuitive, one of the most powerful ways to express yourself is by paying careful attention. God often speaks not through urgency or volume, but through quiet understanding. When you slow down enough to listen, clarity begins to rise. Listen carefully and lovingly to the people around you. Let go of assumptions about what you expect to hear. Open your heart and spirit, not just your ears. When you do, you’ll notice that wisdom often arrives where pride has stepped aside. God teaches generously to those who are willing to learn. When you assume you already know enough, you quietly close the door to growth. When you listen only to impress or respond, you miss what could shape you. True insight grows in humility. The more you listen, observe, and learn, the more grounded and meaningful your words become. Take heed of what life is offering you, and what you learn will carry you farther than anything you could force yourself to say.
Prayer
Father in Heaven, quiet the noise in us that rushes to speak and defend. Teach us the humility to listen well and the patience to learn deeply. Help us hear not just words, but hearts, and to recognize Your wisdom in unexpected places. Shape our understanding so that when we do speak, our words reflect truth, grace, and care. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Ears open doors that mouths never could.
